Our Story

A Brunswick Tradition Since 1990

How It All Began

The story of Mack’s Bar-Be-Que began in 1979, when Mr. Mack Wilson started cooking barbecue alongside Bobby Boone at Twin Oaks BBQ in Brunswick, Georgia.

In 1990, Mr. Mack opened his own restaurant, Mack’s Bar-Be-Que Place, on Glynn Avenue (Highway 17). The restaurant occupied a familiar brick building that had previously housed the Pig & Whistle and, later, Pizza Inn.

What began as one man’s passion for barbecue became a family tradition that continues today.

A Family Tradition

Following Mr. Mack’s passing, his son Daniel carried on the family business, preserving the recipes and traditions that had made Mack’s a Brunswick favorite.

In 2017, Daniel opened the current Mack’s Bar-Be-Que restaurant on New Jesup Highway (Highway 341), bringing the family’s traditional barbecue to a new location.

Daniel remains hands-on in the kitchen today, cooking barbecue beef, ribs, pork butts, and turkey breasts. The recipes and cooking traditions passed down through the Wilson family continue to be an important part of Mack’s Bar-Be-Que.

Miss June’s Homemade Favorites

Mr. Mack’s wife, affectionately known as Miss June, still prepares many of the homemade favorites that customers have enjoyed for generations.

Her house-made barbecue sauce, coleslaw, potato salad, pimiento cheese, and lemonade pie continue to be prepared with the care and attention that helped make Mack’s a Brunswick tradition.

And then there’s her world-famous Brunswick Stew, a hometown favorite and one of Mack’s signature dishes.

These aren’t simply recipes inspired by the past. They’re family recipes still being prepared by the family today.

Still Made the Traditional Way

At Mack’s, tradition isn’t just part of our history. It’s part of what happens in the kitchen every day.

Our hand-cut battered French fries, onion rings, and fried mushrooms are still prepared the traditional way.

Alongside our classic barbecue, you’ll find some distinctive Southern favorites, including deep-fried corn on the cob and chicken-fried bacon.

From traditional barbecue to homemade sides, Mack’s continues to serve the food that has brought Brunswick families together for decades.
